Extra Life

Buff Chocobros

Extra Life is an annual charity event in which gamers in the US and Canada livestream games for 24 hours straight to raise money for children’s hospitals through Children’s Miracle Network. This website was created in 2021 for team Buff Chocobros who gamed for Our Lady of the Lake in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. It was wired into Extra Life’s API to track this specific teams stats and updates.

Since the fundraiser has ended, the API no longer functions, but we’ve filled in the gaps it left with placeholder information to give you an idea of how the site looked during the active campaign.

Dusty Tome

Dusty Tome Studios

Dusty Tome Studios is a small, independent games and multimedia studio based in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA. The company creates a variety of game and media types, including PC games, board and card games, live event games, and YouTube videos. Their company slogan is “Story-driven media,” and their branding conjures the image of an old but beloved library, full of ancient and mystical texts.

Because Dusty Tome uses a retro style for many of its media, especially its PC games which are designed to resemble 90s video games, we designed the site to have a retro look while still keeping to modern standards of web design and development. The artwork may be retro, but every page adapts perfectly to screen sizes from narrow smartphones all the way up to full PC monitors, making it a fun combination of old and new.

Starlight Dream

Creators VKKV

Starlight Dream is the official website for author duo Writers VKKV who create a variety of media in the science fiction, fantasy, and horror genres. Their branding features surrealist dreamscape imagery in purples, blues, and greys to reflect the fantastical nature of the stories they write.

As authors, they wanted a front page where they could display a handful of featured works. They also wanted a works section where they could separate out novels and short stories. We designed a custom plugin that creates a special post type for written works and differentiates between books and individual stories. Each post displays a ribbon with information on the work’s genre, a “buy now” link, and more, and if the work is selected as a featured work, it appears on the home page against a backdrop of twinkling stars.

Additionally, this site features a custom blog design, contact page, and author bio page.

What and Why of Mobile First Design

Then the cell phone came along, and the public started walking around with small computers in their pockets. For a few years, people accepted websites that just didn’t work well on tiny, […]
